Predictors of E-Government Adoption in Developing Countries: A Survey in South Africa

Although there is growing interest in e-government service adoption worldwide, there is little research on the subject in southern African countries such as South Africa. This study aims to examine security risk predictors and sociocultural factors, collectively referred to as institutional logics that influence e-government service adoption in South Africa. The study utilized a questionnaire to survey 420 respondents, selected through random stratification. Structural equation modelling was used as the analytical tool. The results indicate that security risk factors are essential in adopting e-government services. However, the influence of institutional logics and security risks on e-government service adoption is independent. In conclusion, while security risk factors play a crucial role in the adoption of e-government services, institutional logics factors are not exclusive. Evidence relating to the use of public sector websites, such as e-government services, suggests that they are influenced by both security risk factors and institutional logics.
