摘要

Television news has become an integral part of public life. It is a primary source of information for many people, and it plays a significant role in shaping public opinion. Television news can have a positive impact on public life by informing the public about important events, providing a forum for public debate, and holding government accountable. However, television news can also have a negative impact on public life by sensationalizing news stories, spreading misinformation, and contributing to political polarization. Two Jordanian private television news channels were selected as the sample of the study and responses are documented during 8 p.m. The cross-tabulation method was used to measure the obtained frequencies of responses to questions about how people use television news, what they think about television news, and how they think television news affects public life. The Chi-square test was then being used to assess the study hypothesis, which could be something like “There is a relationship between how people use television news and how they think television news affects public life.” Thus, results showed that television news can contribute to political polarization. This is because television news outlets often have a political bias. This bias can lead to people being exposed to only one side of an issue. This can make it difficult for people to have a balanced view of the world and it can make it difficult for them to find common ground with people who have different political views.
