Human Damage to the Global Ecosystem

Capitalism thrives on inequality. The classical presumption that only the rich save has now evolved into a class of super-rich a top the economic pyramid, while the Majority World is stuck in poverty. Our ideologically divided world is driven by several kinds of human damage to our fragile global ecosystem from carbon emissions, deforestation, desertification, and global warming in the age of fossil fuels. Consumerism, especially in the First World, is now shaped by capitalist greed, and is identified as the key driver of human damage to the global ecosystem. In the Majority World, the bulk of humanity is grappling with income inequality, health and sanitation problems and other forms of unsustainable human practices. Global environmental damage is also intricately related to unplanned or rapid urbanization.
