摘要

The fourth chapter delves into the history and evolution of pain theories. A meticulous dissection of the different hypothesis of pain from ancestral to modern pain theories are undertaken, since the specificity theory, to the gate control theory and the  understanding of descending pain modulation. Central to the pain pathways, there is the concept of neuromatrix resulting to the cerebral organization of our body schema. Combined to another sensorial concept which is the neurosignature modulating nociception through sensory experiences. Drawing from the insights of pain theories, both traditional and cutting-edge pain treatments are applied to alleviate nociception, encompassing a spectrum ranging from medicinal approach with herbal remedies to advanced pharmaceutical agents, also natural electrical stimulation from fish or eels for instance or state-of-the-art electronic devices. This chapter serves as a milestone in pain mechanism theories knowledges to have better comprehension on how past and present pain therapies derived from the evolution of these theories.
