Is It Achalasia?

A 57-year-old man presents for dysphagia to solids and liquids. High-resolution esophageal manometry showed a complete lack of organized peristalsis and multiple swallows with pan-esophageal pressurization but an integrated relaxation pressure within the normal range. This chapter discusses how the endoluminal functional lumen imaging probe can be used to distinguish between disorders of esophageal hypocontractility when the diagnosis is not clear after initial workup.
