Is it Reflux or Forceful Contractions?

A 57-year-old woman presents with intermittent dysphagia and chronic worsening heartburn. Workup of the heartburn revealed a large hiatal hernia and refractory GERD. Workup of the dysphagia revealed an esophageal motility disorder. This chapter discusses how to manage a patient in whom these two disorders coincide.
