From Hypercontractile Esophagus to Achalasia

A 66-year-old woman presents with progressive dysphagia. High-resolution esophageal manometry showed multiple strong esophageal contractions. A repeat manometry when symptoms did not improve showed esophageal pan-pressurization. This chapter discusses the progression from one disorder of esophageal motility to a more severe one.
