Multidisciplinary Approach in Primary Teeth Bite Marks Analysis on Prehistoric Pottery Sherds
摘要
The study aimed to assess the possibility of primary teeth leaving marks on ancient pottery; characterize the pattern of tooth marks and automate the analysis process. The ceramic samples from the Late Neolithic archaeological site Vinča - Belo brdo were used. An experimental setup has been created employing natu ral primary teeth in complete dentures. Two hundred twenty tooth marks were recorded. Primary teeth leave characteristic marks on ceramic objects. The resulting traces have specific morphological and dimensional properties. The automation of trace analysis is very useful and promising, but it is still necessary to involve examiners to ensure the objectivity of the analysis of the results. The obtained results can make a significant contribution to the archaeology of childhood.
