Assistive Vest for Visually Impaired Users

Visual impairment is common for disabilities affecting 13% of the population and inconveniencing as 80% of information perceived are through the sense of sight. Visual impairment also affects the mental state of the victims due to being treated differently and inability to perceive social cues. Utilizing modern technology, the aim is to develop a disable assistive technology for the visually impaired by developing 4 integrated features onto a vest to improve their lifestyle. An emergency response system grants security to the user during emergencies, a facial expression recognition system improves social lifestyles, object detection system aids to identify objects and obstacle avoidance aids in navigations. Using microcontrollers these features are integrated and function simultaneously on the vest to improve the lifestyles of visually impairment victims.
