Smart Wheelchair Navigation Using ROS with Collision Avoidance and 2D Mapping

Over the past few years, assistive technology has developed and been used to empower individuals with disabilities by enabling them to accomplish and carry out difficult tasks. The arm muscles must be used more than necessary while using a regular wheelchair. For improved mobility, this idea comprises a unique motorized platform attachment for a standard wheelchair. The platform includes a LiDAR sensor for navigation, two cameras for avoiding obstacles, a GPS module for locating the wheelchair, two motors, and a rechargeable battery. The design is affordable and accessible to middle-class individuals. This wheelchair attachment with electric powered platform is simple to attach and detach.
