摘要

There are various macromolecules that make up the extracellular matrix (ECM). It is composed of proteoglycans, polysaccharides, glycoproteins, and fibrous proteins, which give the ECM its dynamic shape. In terms of tissue development and homeostasis, the ECM plays a major role. In addition, it serves as one of the major structural components of the tumor microenvironment. The ECM undergoes continuous remodeling processes due to the progression of tumors characterized by degradation, deposition, and modification of various ECM components. The purpose of this book chapter is to review the role of ECM remodeling in the development of cancer.
