On August 7, 1913, prior to its departure to Norway, the Herzog Ernst was seen at anchor in Green Harbour, observed by visitors to Spitsbergen who had just arrived aboard the mail boat Sirius from Tromsø and who took notice of the Herbert Schröder-Stranz ship that had recently arrived from the northern coast of Spitsbergen with the Theodor Lerner expedition members (and some of the Arve Staxrud rescue expedition members) on board (Fredrikshalds Avis 15 September 1913, 2).
