The Arve Staxrud rescue expedition of six men and 16 or 17 sledge dogs, and the Theodor Lerner rescued expedition of 13 men and nine sledge dogs, as well as the captive polar bear cub captured during a previous hunt, were now all joined together aboard the freed Herzog Ernst ship, and the vessel was ready for departure (Chap. 20 ).
