The Staxrud Rescue Expedition’s Second Sledge Journey North Across the Ice to Northeast Land, in Search of the Remaining Seven Schröder-Stranz Members

On the day after the Arve Straxrud rescue expedition members had brought the rescued Christopher Rave and Dr. Hermann Rüdiger of the Schröder-Stranz expedition, and the third surviving German expeditioner Captain Alfred Ritscher, from Advent Bay to Green Harbour to board their ship that would take them home, the remaining rescue expeditioners themselves immediately began their second sledging journey north to Treurenberg Bay and Northeast Land. Their mission was to reach the iced-in Herzog Ernst ship once more and conduct another search for the remaining seven men of the Schröder-Stranz expedition who were still missing—Herbert Schröder-Stranz, Richard Schmidt, August Sandleben, Dr. Max Mayr, Dr. Erwin Detmers, Dr. Walter Moeser, and Wilhelm Eberhard. And so, while Rave and Rüdiger and Ritscher, and the other surviving Schröder-Stranz expedition members—Einar Rotvold, Julius Jensen, and Jørgen Jensen—as well as the returning relief expedition members—Dr. P. W. K. Bøckmann, Søren Zachariassen, Per Hansen, Samuel Klemmetsen, Johannes Kemi, and presumably Martin Pettersen Nøis—were anticipating the arrival of the Activ in Green Harbour, Staxrud and his now smaller group of rescuers were preparing to set out to accomplish their second trek across Spitsbergen, which they would now undertake.
