Previously, at the beginning of May 1913, when Arve Staxrud and his expedition had begun their departure south from Treurenberg Bay with the rescued Christopher Rave and Hermann Rüdiger, setting out on the return trek to Advent Bay, the rescue-intent Theodor Lerner and his private relief expedition had begun preparing themselves for their own search for Herbert Schröder-Stranz and his lost comrades.
