摘要

While the Arve Staxrud relief expedition had been forming and departing from Norway during the month of March 1913, the dire situation of the stranded Schröder-Stranz expedition members had remained perilous on Spitsbergen. The six men and several dogs remaining on the frozen ship Herzog Ernst were coping with extreme weather, frostbite injuries, dwindling supplies, and acute loneliness.
