The purpose of this chapter is to consider the nuances of everyday leadership using Camus’ 1942 novella on absurdism as an organizing metaphor. This discussion begins with Early Lessons, an attempt to extend the aspirational insights for leadership practice in the literature with some pragmatism. Next is Resurrection and the Right Fit for the job, a critical examination of dynamics that can (and have) erode the university infrastructure and path of relevancy to a democratic society. The final section, Pourquoi!?/WHY!? addresses the puzzles of making peace within in the sphere of turnaround leadership. Ultimately, this discussion recognizes authentic leadershipAuthentic leadership as a practice based on the courage to stand on conviction and recognize what is in our span of control and what is not. This is especially important as the societal attacks and desecration of the profession of Education call for deeper perspectives on motivations behind anti- intellectualism and the price of authentic leadership practice.
