摘要

This chapter outlines the requirements for ballast water installations located within hazardous and non-hazardous compartments on ships. When ballast water management system compartments are installed on the deck of an existing vessel, usually specific plans pertaining to such must be submitted to Class in order to verify that the arrangements provided for firefighting on the deck of the vessel are not adversely compromised. The plans detailing the ballast water system for submission to Class are expected to confirm that the firefighting requirements of SOLAS Chap. 2 , Regulation 10, as well as the applicable Class Rules, are unaffected by the installation of ballast water management system compartments on deck. For all ballast water management system compartments, a ‘Warning Notice’ must be placed outside the entrance of the compartment, indicating the requirement for mechanical ventilation to begin prior to any personnel entering the compartment.
