A recent ASPC Clinical Practice Statement reviewed the demographics of individuals enrolled in cardiovascular clinical trials including both prevention and treatment. While racial and ethnic minority groups account for 36% of the population of the United States, individuals from these groups are considerably less likely to be enrolled in clinical trials, and the percentages vary by disease state. Likewise, women remain much less likely than men to enroll in trials.
