Liability

Liability falls under tort law. Here we will step away from the federal jurisdiction of the law and explore the cross section of state tort law and state financial responsibility laws, which mandate insurance coverages. Since the goal of autonomous vehicles is to remove the human component of driving the question of how autonomous vehicle technologies will affect driver liability following an accident needs to be addressed. In this chapter, we will look at the liability of autonomous vehicle manufacturers.
