AGS CoCare®: Ortho: Orthogeriatrics Comanagement for Fragility Fractures

Hip fractures are common in older adults and a hallmark of excessive morbidity and premature mortality. According to the CDC, around 300,000 older adults are hospitalized annually for hip fracture and the number is expected to double by the year 2050. The increasing number of older adults presenting with hip fractures, associated poor outcomes and high cost led to the development of comanagement programs which showed improved outcomes (e.g., decreased LOS, medical complications, and mortality). The John A Hartford Foundation partnered with the AGS and experts in this field to develop a robust program for the dissemination of orthogeriatrics comanagement to all hospital systems in the USA, known as the AGS CoCare®: Ortho. The AGS CoCare®: Ortho is intended to disseminate and guide hospital systems to provide a standardized and evidence-based hip fracture management program.
