摘要

With the exponentially increasing population of older adults, osteoporosis is becoming a major public health problem. At 50 years of age, over half of women and one-third of men can expect to suffer a fracture due to osteoporosis, with mortality rates after major fracture far exceeding those of breast or prostate cancer [1]. Beyond mortality, osteoporotic fractures cause pain, disability, and need for an increased level of care and are associated with depression and reduced quality of life [2].
