The UCLA Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care (ADC) Program for Comprehensive, Coordinated, and Patient-Centered Dementia Care

In the USA, an estimated 6.9 million persons are affected by Alzheimer’s disease [1]. Moreover, the total burden of dementia is even higher as Alzheimer’s disease accounts for only 60–80% of cases of dementia. The clinical manifestations of dementia are protean and devastating, including cognitive impairment, immobility and falls, swallowing disorders and aspiration pneumonia, urinary and fecal incontinence, and behavioral disturbances (e.g., agitation, aggression, depression, and hallucinations) leading to caregiver stress, burnout, and medical illnesses.
