Geriatric Emergency Departments

Geriatric emergency departments (geriatric EDs) are innovative models that bring potential solutions to address the multimorbidity, functional, and psychosocial challenges of providing emergency care to older adults. Here, we present two common approaches to geriatric ED care: the geriatric ED practitioner model and the geriatric observation unit, along with barriers and strategies for implementation and dissemination at local sites and across healthcare systems.
