The Initiative for Computerized Global Psychopathology (CGP) Model

The author proposes a new computerized global psychopathology (CGP) model that reflects the twenty-first-century advances in measurements, information technology, and neurosciences. The CGP model has the potential of meeting the challenges of accelerated globalization, including its impact on mental health problems, and facilitates data collection and research across the globe. The author reviews the psychometric properties of the new assessment tool: the Standard for Clinicians’ Interview in Psychiatry (SCIP) and the main outcomes of the SCIP project: the SCIP glossary, the SCIP scales, and the mental health codes. The CGP model includes 6 tenets: clinical start point, universality of psychopathology, experimental psychopathology, plurality of causes of mental disorders, information technology, and clinical endpoint. The core of the CGP model is scientific evidence. The CGP model welcomes all psychiatry disciplines as long as scientific methods support the proposed theories and prove the efficacy of treatments provided to patients. Finally, the author discusses the major limitations of the CGP model.
