Pandemic as Apocalyptic Event
摘要
Chapter 5 begins with a recent apocalypse: COVID-19 and the 2020 response by Americans, which cast a new light on the phenomenon of prepping as well as generating new religious narratives of the pandemic. As I argue in this chapter, the pandemic definitely qualifies as an apocalypse (lower case a) in that it was highly disruptive and transformative, affecting both religious and secular practices. I will look at the Evangelical response and how COVID-19 fit into pre-existing discourses of apocalypse, in addition to changes and shifts in American civil religion.
