A Novel, Compact, Broadband Band-Stop Filter for Rejecting 5G Millimeter-Wave Communications

This chapter introduces filters in general, focusing specifically on band-stop filters and presenting the creation of an innovative band-stop filter designed specifically to reject millimeter-wave communications in the 5G spectrum. The filter’s overall dimensions are 14.8 × 3.8 mm2. The design incorporates a Rogers TMM 10i (tm) substrate. Notably, the proposed filter is designed with a rejected bandwidth spanning 6.3 GHz (24.5–30.8 GHz), a center frequency at 27.2 GHz, and a fractional bandwidth of 23%, demonstrating a substantial rejection capability of 41 dB. To assess the filter’s effectiveness, simulations and assessments were conducted utilizing the high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS), and its equivalent circuit was modeled using the ANSYS circuit editor. The outcomes affirm the filter’s appropriateness for applications operating below 24 GHz and above 30 GHz, ensuring optimal functionality in such frequency ranges.
