Fractal MIMO Antenna Design for High-Frequency Terahertz Applications

This research article presents a multi-band compact MIMO antenna of dimensions 90 μm × 44 μm for the THz spectral region. In the structure a series of fractal crosses are arranged in a circle around a circular path. This antenna configuration offers better isolation and multi-band frequencies among the radiating elements. The current design gives S11 ≤ − 20 dB and S21 ≤ − 40 dB at the resonant band frequencies with stable radiation and effective impedance characteristics. MIMO performance parameters of the designed structure—mean effective gain (MEG), channel capacity loss (CCL), total active reflection coefficient (TARC), diversity gain (DG) and envelope correlation coefficient (ECC)—are within the acceptable limits for the multi-band resonant frequencies.
