BN for Reinforced Concrete Structures

Risk assessment and reliability analysis of aging reinforced concrete (RC) structures can reduce the harm of structural durability failure to human safety and economic development. As a relatively new technique to assess risks, Bayesian Network (BN) has been applied in many fields, such as reliability of pipelines, software safety, etc. This chapter summarizes the state of the art for the application of BN in the risk assessment of aging RC structures. A large number of published BN models are collected, which highlight the advantages of BN models in updating and integrating information/data. An example BN model and a potential prototype of a future risk assessment system are built to show a feasible way and a future direction to estimate the failure risk of aging RC structures, respectively.
