Bayesian Network Basics

This chapter provides the basic concepts involved in Bayesian reasoning and Bayesian network models. It discusses procedures for building Bayesian networks and the different approaches used to quantify the network. The chapter forms the basis for subsequent chapters discussing models, statistical distributions, and applications of Bayesian Networks. The theoretical foundations of Bayesian Networks are explored only briefly—the focus is the chapter is to familiarize the corrosion expert on Bayesian network concepts and enable model building.
