MedellínMedellín is located in the central west region of ColombiaColombia, in the center of the Aburrá ValleyAburrá Valley, in a unique geographical and political context, since it is far from the system of cities that emerges from the center of the country, led by BogotáBogotá (Colombia), and also from other dynamic city systems, such as those on the Atlantic Coast, where there is a direct connection between the cities of BarranquillaBarranquilla (Colombia), Cartagena de IndiasCartagena de Indias (Colombia), and Santa MartaSanta Marta (Colombia), as main urban centers, which are linked to other cities with smaller populations. MedellínMedellín is also located far from two other visible city systems in ColombiaColombia, such as the one that has been structured around Manizales, Armenia, and Pereira, which constitutes the core of the Eje Cafetero (known as the CoffeeCoffee Axis (Eje Cafetero) zone), and which towards the southwest is articulated around the city ​​of Cali, capital of the department of Valle del Cauca.
