The Issues

This chapter gives an overview of the issues faced by the Horniman as it began the lengthy process of restitution of its Benin objects. It addresses the legal, governance, ethical and various other processes that needed to be followed when dealing with restitution claims. It also considers how to address the resulting gaps in displays when items have been returned.
