Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics
摘要
In this chapter, we shall cover the concepts governing the linear elastic fracture mechanicsLinear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) (LEFM) behavior of a continuum. LEFM, as it is known, is concerned with the analysis of cracks in the linear elastic regime. It provides the conceptual, theoretical and experimental tools for characterizing the behavior of cracks in elastic bodies. Unlike perfect elasticity, where the stress stateStress states and the stress concentrationStress concentrations factor are of concern, in LEFM, both the stress stateStress states and the defect size and orientation govern the failure behavior of a continuum. Accordingly, LEFM is a powerful tool that will allow us to determine the safety margins, techniques in crack arrest and life expectancy of a continuum containing defects.
