The Scope and Methods of Economics

Economics is a social science along with the four other major social sciences, anthropology, political science, social psychology, and sociology. These subjects, or disciplines, have the shared objective of improving our understanding of aspects of society. It makes some sense to divide up the search for understanding this way, provided we recognise that the subjects shade into each other. There are no clear borders. Social science shares with natural science, physics, biology, and so on the common objective of improving understanding.
