Enhanced Production of Ployhydroxybutyrate (PHB) Using the Marine Bacterium Paracoccus Marcusii F25, Isolated from Biofloc Aquaculture System

Poly‑β‑hydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biodegradable polymer with many potential industrial applications, including medical sector, packaging industries, nanotechnology and agriculture, among others. This study aimed to screen PHB-producing microbial strains isolated from biofloc aquaculture system. Sudan black B staining analysis indicated that the best strain for PHB synthesis is P. marcusii F25. The most suitable carbon and nitrogen sources for PHB production by P. marcusii F25 were sucrose and yeast extract, respectively. Finally, optimizing the fermentation conditions for cultivating the P. marcusii F25 obtained a PHB production of 4.26 g/L. These findings provide a novel option for further research in the use of PHB for producing biodegradable materials.
