The Effect of the Concentration of Aerosol Pollutants on the Human Respiratory System

Atmospheric aerosols are an important part of the atmosphere and are closely related to human health, but there is a limited understanding of the size-resolved health risks of these aerosols. In this study, the Anderson eight-stage sampler was used to report the concentration and health risks of atmospheric particles of different sizes in the coastal city of Xiamen in China. The particle size distribution of particles in the atmosphere is concentrated in 2.5-10 μm. However, when the particle size is 0.7-1.1 μm, the oxidation potential is as high as 13.24 pmol/(min*m3), which has the greatest impact on human health. It is found that the head is the area with the highest risk of exposure to the studied aerosols, and the deposition efficiency is as high as 86.23% when the particle size range is 5.8–10 μm. This research helps us better understand the potential health risks of atmospheric aerosols with different particle sizes.
