Primarily Study on the Healthy Benefits of Roadside Tree in Waterfront Park During Hot Summer Based on the People’s Thermal Responses Assessment

Because of the affection of global warming and urban heat island, cities’ air temperature is rising significantly. As a result, citizens’ health risks increased. Some methods are adopted to curb this tendency, for example, improving the area of tree planting. This study set up a series of experiments carried out on hydrophilic leisure path and tree-shaded leisure path in Stalin Waterfront Park to collect the data which include human physiological temperature value and hot-related disorder symptoms. The comparative trials found that in the hydrophilic leisure path experiment group, the temperature of each monitoring body segment increased by 0.05–2.98 °C, and the number of the subjects who have hot-related disorder symptoms increased too during the outdoor test stage. However, in the tree-shaded leisure path experiment group, the temperature of each monitoring body segment decreased by 0.50–1.85 °C, and the number of subjects who have the hot-related disorder symptoms decreased too during outdoor test stage. The results show that a tree-shaded leisure path environment has a positive impact on health benefits, however hydrophilic leisure path where without tree shelter has a negative impact on health benefits. In conclusion, it is possible to meet the need of citizen’s outdoor activities and protect their health from ill by increasing the area of trees in outdoor spaces in hot summer.
