Forecasting Crop Yield Under Climate Change Using Crop Growth Models in China: A Review

Frequent extreme weather events, driven by global warming and rapid climate change, have a significant impact on crop production. With increasing concerns about food security, it is crucial to assess the effects of climate change on crop production and accurately predict crop yields under changing climatic conditions. This study first reviews the effects of high temperature and drought stress on crops during different growth stages and provides an overview of the commonly used crop growth models for predicting crop yields under climate change. Finally, it reviews the studies conducted in China from 2000 to 2020 that utilized crop growth models to investigate the impact of climate change on crop production. The study found that more experiments on minor crops are needed to gather experimental data on the effects of extreme and compound extreme events on crop growth. These efforts aim to better capture the impact of extreme events on crop growth and improve the accuracy of crop yield prediction.
