Appropriated Print: The Brontës as Writers

  • J. E. Young

摘要

This chapter sets out the evidence for the Brontës’ general childhood writing practice, exampling how they borrowed from their reading material within their new juvenilia. Demonstrating the critically defined examples of figures such as Byron, Napoleon and Walter Scott, this chapter establishes how the siblings made use of the material which they read, whilst considering the similar Romantic writing process of borrowing and appropriation as discussed in publications available to the Brontës, such as Blackwood’s Magazine.
