Data Embassy in the European Union: The Digital Diplomacy

Digital technologies, the Internet, and social media have brought new opportunities into the lives of people around the world. Therefore, digital diplomacy is now an integral part of the foreign policy of the states, whether they are large, medium, or small, but also part of the activity of international organizations, both governmental and non-governmental. One of the main benefits of digital diplomacy, which is seen as an adequate way of combating cyber threats, is data embassy. The main purpose of this chapter is to specify the characteristics of EU digital diplomacy, as well as to explain when she applies the data embassy project. For the realization of the research, the qualitative methodology was used, based on the bibliography and credible Internet sources related to digital diplomacy, the data embassy project, and the EU. The results of the research have shown that data embassy, in addition to favoring small states, also finds a place in the EU, which is a sui generis entity. The conclusions of the chapter aim to provide information on the main characteristics of EU digital diplomacy.
