Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Program

This study aims to clarify the concept of the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program (DDR), and its role in promoting peace processes and the rule of law; or this program is considered one of the strategies used to confront armed conflicts that arise in conflict countries, and this program has a major and important role in strengthening national capabilities through reforming the security sector and achieving transitional justice. The importance of this study is evident in the fact that it sheds light on the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program (DDR), in view of the very important role this disarmament program plays in restoring the spirit of life to societies surviving from conflicts, and its tireless efforts in providing assistance and support to children and women. However, the program faces several challenges and difficulties in its implementation stemming from its being a comprehensive and integrated program, which requires international cooperation between several United Nations organizations and agencies and the support of international donors, in addition to national cooperation from the parties to the conflict themselves. The study reached a number of results and recommendations, the most important of which is the inclusion of the disarmament program Demobilization and reintegration within a special agreement and not being satisfied with the operational guide applicable by the United Nations, in addition to making an amendment to some provisions of the Geneva Conventions, which enhances the efficiency of implementing the program.
