摘要

Uninterrupted food provision is a vital component of sustainable development goals in less-developed regions worldwide. The demand for secure and safe food is the dire need of time in view of the increasing population at an exploding rate. To meet the world’s expectations, a revolution in the agricultural sector is a basic requirement in underdeveloped countries, and secure food is one of the signs of economic development. According to the United Nations, agriculture and food security are closely associated with the progress of a country, as mentioned in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The interconnection between food security and agriculture is enormous. The chapter highlights various threats to and opportunities for agricultural security to ensure an adequate food supply. It is recommended that skillful human resource capacity building is necessary to increase the quality and quantity of food crops. Additionally, developing the dairy and poultry industries is a prerequisite for coping with the UN’s SDGs. The conservation of water and soil resources through climate smart agriculture techniques; implementation of plant biosecurity and quarantines; and discouraging synthetic chemicals and promotion of organic farming are also basic requirements for agricultural security on sustainable basis.
