Research and Application of the Value Accounting System for Aquatic Ecosystem Products

The Aquatic ecosystem is an essential component of terrestrial ecosystems. It not only provide freshwater resources, fish products, hydropower, and other basic materials and energy sources for humans but also offer services such as flood control, climate regulation, and improving the quality of life for surrounding residents. Assessing the contributions of aquatic ecosystems to human well-being has been a focal point in international aquatic ecology research. Based on domestic and international research findings, this article enhances the inventory of aquatic ecosystem products, proposes a flood storage value accounting method based on flood control volume, and constructs a comprehensive accounting system for aquatic ecosystem product values. Furthermore, a case study was conducted, showing that the total value of aquatic ecosystem products in Jiande City in 2021 amounted to 10.691 billion RMB, accounting for 24.83% of the annual GDP of the region. The aquatic ecosystem plays a significant role in supporting the socioeconomic development of the city.
