Introduction

This research focuses on evaluating the mobility and potential impact of landslides at selected locations in Lower Austria, aiming to address the challenges in reliable hazard mapping of such events. The study acknowledges the diverse nature of landslides, influenced by internal factors like soil properties and external factors including human interventions and climatic changes. It highlights the advancements and limitations in current regional-scale landslide hazard mapping, emphasizing the need for detailed representation of landslide sub-processes. The project employs physically based models to assess the likelihood, characteristics, and impacts of potential landslide mobilizations. Objectives include determining conditions under which landslides may occur, predicting their types and behaviors, and estimating their possible extents, speeds, and impacts. The creation of detailed hazard maps, incorporating information on frequencies, magnitudes, societal impacts, and uncertainties, is a key goal. The project also prioritizes effective end-user communication through optimized visualization of the results, considering the accelerated rate of environmental changes and the evolving risks of landslide occurrences due to climate change.
