Cerebellar Hemorrhage

Cerebellar hemorrhage is a frequent complication after preterm birth; the risk increases with decreasing gestational age. Risk factors are similar to risk factors of supratentorial germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage. Diagnosis is made with ultrasound and/or MRI. Prevention is based on maintaining respiratory and circulatory stability. There is no treatment for cerebellar hemorrhage, but early intervention may contribute to better outcome. The prognosis depends on the size and location of the hemorrhage(s).
