Introduction

This is the introductory chapter of the book. General aspects related to Location Science are reviewed. The role that uncertainty plays in the field is then discussed. The structure of the volume is explained, namely the purpose of each of the four parts. Several hints are provided regarding the better way to take advantage of the contents of this volume. Finally, some terminology and notation used throughout this book are briefly summarized.
