Creation, Adjustment, and Dynamics of the Music Market in Naples in the Seventeenth Century

The socio-economic evolution of the city of Naples between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries is described as a continuous and inescapable decadence, in contrast to its growing cultural vibrancy, which saw it rise to the status of a cultural capital, especially in the fields of music and theater. This contradiction stems again from a stereotypical and unfortunately established separation between cultural history and economic history, the latter of which, as noted above, has so far been very little interest in analyzing the economic processes underlying artistic and cultural activities.
