The Interdental Contacts: Direct Restoration Techniques of the Proximal Walls by the Centripetal Method

This chapter starts from the premise of applying the centripetal technique for all types of restorations made in cavities of posterior teeth that also involve the proximal areas and marginal ridges: class II, MOD, or mirror cavities. This technique requires, firstly, the restoration of the proximal walls by one of the chosen layering techniques (oblique and split layering technique, pre-cured or co-cured flowable composite on gingival edge, open sandwich, bulk-fill technique, injection molding technique) using appropriate matrix systems (saddle matrix technique, circular matrix technique, single matrix technique for mirror cavities, two-matrix technique for mirror cavities, matrix-in-matrix technique, transparent celluloid matrix technique). Techniques for direct restoration of frontal teeth are described: technique using a metal or celluloid contoured sectional matrix, transparent strip technique, free-hand modeling technique, cotton roll, and Teflon tape technique diastema closure or reduction.
