Chronic, Reducible Scapholunate Ligament Injury: Arthroscopic Supercapsuloplasty

This chapter examines the efficacy of an arthroscopic variation of capsuloplasty for the treatment of severe chronic and reducible scapholunate ligament injuries. By shortening the dorsal intercarpal ligament (DICL), the primary effect of this technique is to enhance stability in the scapholunate (SL) joint. Additionally, arthroscopic supercapsuloplasty recreates the dorsal capsule scapholunate septum (DCSS), further reinforcing joint stability. An important secondary benefit of this procedure is its ability to also stabilize the lunotriquetral (LT) joint when addressing combined SL and LT instabilities. With improved strength and stability this variation of arthroscopic capsuloplasty technique offers a reliable and minimally invasive approach for managing scapholunate ligament injuries.
