The carpus comprises eight unique bones that facilitate a diverse range of motion while maintaining stability to transfer load from the hand to the forearm. This interplay is dependent on osseus topology, ligamentous structures, and tendons. An understanding of the role of each carpal bone assists in understanding pathological conditions and informs treatment.
